Welcome to Spatial Audio Online (spatialaudio.online), an archive and research platform for ambisonics, higher-order ambisonics (HOA), and spatial audio, operated by Lietuvos Muzikos ir Teatro Akademija (Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre — LMTA). By registering an account, uploading content, or otherwise using this website you agree to the terms set out below.

1. Definitions

  • Platform — the Spatial Audio Online website and its associated services.
  • We / Us / LMTA — Lietuvos Muzikos ir Teatro Akademija.
  • User / You — any person who accesses or registers on the Platform.
  • Content — audio files, video files, images, text, articles, venue data, and any other material submitted by Users.

2. Eligibility and Accounts

You must be at least 16 years old to register. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials. Accounts may be created with an email and password or via Microsoft OAuth. Provide accurate, up-to-date information at registration. Administrators may delete accounts that violate these terms.

3. Uploaded Content and Intellectual Property

You retain copyright in any original content you upload. By uploading, you grant LMTA a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, process, transcode, display, and stream your content on the Platform for archival, research, and educational purposes. This licence ends when your content is removed.

You affirm that you hold the rights (or have obtained the necessary licences) to all content you upload and that it does not infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party.

Unless otherwise indicated on a specific work, content on the Platform is not freely redistributable. You may not republish, sell, rent, sub-licence, or commercially exploit Platform content without prior written permission from the rights holder.

4. Permitted and Prohibited Uses

You may use the Platform to:

  • Stream and listen to spatial audio pieces for personal, research, or educational purposes.
  • Upload and archive your own spatial audio works (WAV, video) subject to format and size limits.
  • Publish artist or venue profiles and articles, subject to editorial review.
  • Access the Platform API using your personal API key for authorised integrations.

You must not:

  • Upload content you do not have the right to distribute.
  • Upload material that is unlawful, defamatory, obscene, or harmful.
  • Attempt to circumvent authentication or access controls.
  • Use automated tools to mass-scrape, bulk-download, or mirror Platform content.
  • Share or redistribute your API key with third parties.

5. Content Moderation

Articles submitted by users are subject to editorial review and approval by Platform administrators before publication. LMTA reserves the right to decline, remove, or modify any content that violates these terms or does not meet editorial standards, without notice.

6. Audio Processing and Transcoding

Uploaded WAV files are automatically transcoded into streaming formats (Opus/WebM, AAC/M4A) required for binaural rendering on different devices. The original WAV may be retained for archival and download purposes if the uploading user has enabled downloads on that piece. Transcoded formats are generated solely to enable playback on the Platform.

7. API Access

Registered users have access to a personal API key for programmatic access to publicly available Platform data. The API must be used in accordance with these terms. LMTA may suspend or revoke API access for misuse without notice.

8. Cookies and Session Data

The Platform uses session cookies to maintain authenticated login state. No third-party tracking or advertising cookies are used. Browser local storage is used to remember your preferred colour theme (light/dark).

9. Privacy and Data

We store the personal data you provide at registration (name, email address, optional profile information) to operate the Platform and, where enabled, to send account-related notifications. We do not sell or share personal data with third parties. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us. Profile images are processed and resized server-side and stored on the Platform infrastructure.

10. Availability and Changes

The Platform is provided free of charge on a best-effort basis. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. LMTA may update, modify, or discontinue any feature at any time. These terms may be revised; continued use after a revision constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Platform is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. We do not warrant that transcoded audio will be error-free or that the binaural rendering will meet your specific requirements.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, LMTA shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Platform or any content published on it.

13. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Lithuania. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Vilnius, Lithuania.
